    Emsworthy Mire Dartmoor

Emsworthy Mire Dartmoor. Spent a few hours here today looking for Ring Ousel's, although we counted fourteen they were very mobile between the various berry laden bushes and rocky outcrops. Also seen were numerous Winter Thrushes and Mistle Thrushes. Will give it another go in the week get there before first light, its not easy terrain to move around in fast.

Good old Dartmoor. The most rugged and beautiful, or the scariest place on the planet ................ depending on the weather!

Interesting to note the dry wall: possibly a shepherd enclosure?

      Hi Colin
Very true words, Dartmoor is an area I spend a lot of time at.

In days gone Emsworthy was a farmstead. this is all that remains of it now, the barn being used as a shelter for the sheep. You can still see the stone wall remains of the old farm buldings to the right of the barn.

Thanks Peter. Those gate post and others like them over the Moor are fitted with chips, people steal them beleieve it or not - they are traceable.

I like the second image but feel it is somewhat spoiled (or should that be spoilt ?) by that white sky. I think I would crop down from the top to eliminate some of the sky but can also see that you may want to keep the top of the tree left of the barn.

The white sky is in fact mist rolling down off the hill. The barn picture was taken only minutes after the first picture within five minutes of taking the barn picture it was covered by mist - this is Dartmoor, one minutes you can see for miles the next not the hand in front of you.
