    Re: Red Squirrel

Nice one Stan. Was thinking of going over but would like to get them in another location other than up from the Church. They seem to dominate the same stumps/logs all the time with everyone getting theme shots.

          thanks for looking guys

they are all over the Island but seem to prefer the woodland by the church, years of photographers attracting them with food i suspect. Last year on one visit they were in and around the churchyard which made for different compositions

Since the spring there are quite a number of trees come down in the wind around the woodland so there are some different opportunities for different stumps etc

            Re: Red Squirrel

Having recently paid my first visit to Brownsea, at least I know I was in the right area (but not picking the right stumps/logs). I did put out some mixed nuts on a nice looking branch that had some light on it but never gave it long enough to tempt any squirrels, or even any birds. Had to be content with a few dark images of disappearing tails in dense undergrowth. Next time though...next time.

              Re: Red Squirrel

Woodland by the church is the prime area for them, at the moment the area to the left of the path is much lighter as the tree canopy on the other side is still quite thick.

Hazelnuts are best as they are the more natural food for them, the squirrel will take one bury it and return time and again to the same place so you just watch for him and be prepared. Once they have buried two or three, often the squirrel will then just sit and eat the next nut giving the best opportunity to shoot
