    Robin

    I took this sitting on the river bank in Norfolk Didn't have a lot of time to frame this as the bird was hopping everywhere!
    Have I put enough DOF in this?
    Trying to gain some critsism to get better.

        DOF is not the issue here. I think your shutter speed was a little too slow resulting in quite a bit of camera shake. As a general rule of thumb you should try to use a shutter speed equivilent to or greater than your focal length (if you have a non IS lens).

          I had the camera settings at:
          f5.6 1/400 iso400 300mm and hand held
          Does this confirm your coments?
          If so what would have been better?

            Well with these setting you should have been good to go, but it is soft and does not seemed to have grabbed focus correctly to me. Only other reason would be an unsteady hand ?
            Was it the 300 IS lens ?
