ID Help Required

Anybody know who/what this is or what he'll grow up to be?
Found him crawling across the kitchen table.
He is about 4-5cm long and very weird.

It's the caterpillar of the Vapourer moth aka Orgyia antiqua.

Not being my area of expertise, I did think of an alien invasion when I first spotted him crawling across the kitchen table.

Interestingly, the Vapourer Moth is the only moth known to suck blood from humans. Usually found in their thousands they can reduce a fully grown man to empty empty skin and bones overnight. You won't feel a thing...

Fortunately, Dave, I have a cunning plan.

Any moths thinking of sucking my blood out will end up as a drunken mess long before it can do any real damage.

Just have to remember to keep my alcohol levels topped up at all times. Purely for survival reasons, you understand.
