    Digital Photo Professional

I use this to sort out my images and basic RAW editing before any final edits being done in Photoshop Elements 5. Personally, I think the program is great, but make sure if you are using an old version to upgrade it free from the Canon website - here!

I dont know if there any tutorials about using it anywhere, so if people have links they would be greatly appreciated. However, if you have it in the box and have never opened it, try it - it could be well worth your while!

      Re: Digital Photo Professional

I use DPP for all my editing except for straighting horizons, which I have to resort to Photoshop for; it would be good if Canon could include this in their next update, or make the trimming tool rotatable, which would be almost as good.
I just find DPP so easy to use, I use to use Photoshop (elements, PS7, CS, CS2), Bibble, Lightroom, but for simply converting RAW images and doing the standard tweaks DPP is hard to beat. I also use it for file organising as the layout makes it so easy to see what is where and moving file is simple, either drag 'n' drop, or copy 'n' paste and the jobs done: I just wish DDP had the facility to rename files, so I don't have to go in to zoombrowser, convert the file again, or use save as.
To see how DPP can save you a packet, just try the tutorials mentioned by Greecian, and Adobe will have to charge some other fool £££ for Lightroom, etc.

There seems to be a variance n version numbers you can down load. The European site offers a 3.4 revision but the US site offers 3.6 version

Not sure if this is a significant difference

I thought that - went back and checked and v3.6 was listed as a download below 3.4! Dont know why they dont just put the most recent but it is there and now I have it!

DPP 3.7 has a rename tool and I'm sure previous versions had it as well. Just use "ALT-R" on the keyboard or the "Tools Menu>Start Rename Tool". It would be nice though if it had a quick rename option, say right click on mouse and choose "Rename" like other apps.

I don't see 3.7 on the Canon site. Anyone have a link please?

                  Cheers Rob,

67 MB download in progress ;-)

This from the site (want to look at NR Preview Screen):

Changes from Digital Photo Professional 3.7.0 ============================
                  Supports additional models
The EOS 7D, PowerShot G11, and PowerShot S90 are now supported.
Adds an NR Preview screen (NR: Noise Reduction)
You can now adjust the NR level while checking the image status on the Preview screen. Maintains the [Collection] window
Before, when quitting Digital Photo Professional, all images in the [Collection] window were removed from the [Collection] window; however, this has been improved so that the images in the [Collection] window can now be maintained.
Addition of new lenses that support the aberration correction function.
Newly supports the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, EF-S15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, and EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS.

                  Cautions on Use
If you use the Digital Photo Professional 3.7.2 remote capture function, it is also necessary to download the latest version of EOS Utility.

                  Compatibility:
Operating system(s): Windows Vista 32bit, Windows Vista 64bit, Windows XP SP2, Windows XP SP3

                  Language(s): English

                      Re: Digital Photo Professional

Latest version is 3.7.3, which unbelievably still does not work 100% on Apple Mac Snow Leopard . I just can not understand why Canon have not sorted this out yet. Like EOSMAN says it need a straighten tool, again a simply thing that Canon have left out for some unknown reason (less we all have to buy a 7D with built in leavening tool)

If you've got a MAC PC there is a version 3.7.3 which is available @ http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0036999.asp. At the moment 3.7.2 is the latest for Windows.

As stated by Canon, the Mac version of DPP 3.7.3 will not allow you to move images between folders
