    Watchin' the dog

Trying to get some portraits of my daughter and grandchildren when they were distracted by the antics of a passing dog. I think I like this better than the straight on shot! Ness Islands, Inverness.

    Canon EOS30D 50mm 1.8 1/80sec @ f5.6

    C+C welcome.

Normally, a shot like this doesn't work too well, because you are thinking "what are they looking at?" But here, I think it works very well. The composition is spot on, with the triangular tree-trunk and the matching splayed legs of the sitters. Placing the subjects dead-centre really works here. I would have found it more effective had you used less depth of field to blur the background, but a very effective and unusual shot. Nice one.

EDIT: Just noticed you used a nifty-fifty, I think f2.8 would have blurred the background more.

Thanks Rob, you are right re the composition, and that a bit more separation from the background would have helped. It ended up being a quick grab shot in the end when I saw the eyes-right moment occurring!
