Shot without a camera.

I used an Epson flatbed scanner with the lid off. The object is a hand-held magnifying glass (with black plastic body). As the light travelled down the bed I moved the lens with it, varying the lateral position slightly. Had to wear black rubber gloves to hide my hand which would have reflected light.

The colours are from light being refracted through the lens. I boosted the colours by putting the output TIFF files from the scans into CS4 ACR, then into Photoshop to tidy up dust etc. Shot #2 has had polar-cordinates added in CS4.

No EXIF! They look much better on black.

I always thought those stories were apocryphal - I mean, how exactly would you get up onto the machine? Although I admit that ladies may have an easier task scanning their b.....

Well, they may need to copy quite small detail (print) so I guess they need to be pretty good. These are about 50% crops as well! It was a fairly cheap scanner - about £70.

And a 130mp is quite impressive. Heavy on disk space though.

The fact that I 'think outside the box' as you put it, explains why I have reached the tender age of 57, am broke, unemployed, unemployable, a waster, bored, utterly useless, etc. But I have some good ideas, so that's OK, isn't it!
