My first go at some Night time shots.

Hi all, I've not been around much as I've been working & studying, but I did find time to pack my camera on my last trip to Sheffield (I go up there every so often, for a couple of weeks at a time for lectures). I found a small area I love around the Winter Gardens as there's so many interesting shapes & lighting every where, hopefully in time when my skills improve I will get some images that convey that! In the mean time here's a couple of shots for you.

    Advice & comments welcome.

Spot on. I know the area since my son has just finished at Sheffield Uni...I also seem to know a lot of the pubs!

Thanks,I did notice that on some of the long exposures people would walk across the shot & they didn't appear in the final image! I've read about using a big stopper during the day to remove unwanted traffic & people from images creating eerily empty scenes & that's something I'd love to try. :D

looking at your user name, you don't happen to go on the Torquecars forum do you? (think I've asked you this before.)

Congratulations to your son on his graduation, I've seen them around Hallam uni this week, must be a great feeling walking up to the stage. Hopefully I get there too, one day (fingers crossed)!

Well when I say first attempt these are the some total of about 80+ shots over two nights & these are the only ones I'm really happy with, it took some trial & error but I've learnt a lot.

Thanks all for the +ive comments.

If these are really first time attempts, you did a stunning job.

                    I really like #1.

                    Thumbs up,

Very nice, and for a first attempt even better i also think #2 shades it.

Beautifully done and I particularly like #2.

Although we generically call them night shots, they do look slightly better if you can shoot them at twilight, when there is still a little indigo blue left in the sky. It shows the difference between the shadows and sky, rather than being mixed in together.
