Wide Angle Zoom

I've read most of the threads in this discussion area, and they seem to focus on the 17-40 or 16-35 short range zoom from Canon.

Does anybody have a fast relatively cheaper alternative?

Sigma, Tokina or Tamron for example?

Much as I would love the Canon L series lens, I simply can't afford £1200.00 for a F2.8 zoom!

The 17-40 is usually about £400 and very good

Hi there, I use a Tamron 17-50 f2.8, very sharp fast lens and it's served me well over the years. I used it to shoot a family wedding in September and had great results with it. I can recommend it as a cheaper alternative, you can pick up lovely used examples for around £250

I use the Sigma 10-20 and find it a very good lens on my 50D.

The current version of the 18 -55mm kit lens is considered a very good performer. If you already have that lens, any improvement by looking at anything else is llikely to be marginal, so I would look at the 10 - 22mm, as an addition to your existing kit.

Personally I feel the siggy 10-20 is the way to go - its an excellent lens

If you're looking for a fast WA lens the sigma doeen't really fit that bill, although it's very good for the money.

Tokina 11-16 2.8 costs around £560
The tamron is a good option, but for heavy sustained use you'll begin to see the results of the poor build quality.

It's probably best to state your intended usage and budget. :-)
