I wasn't expecting that today! Looks like a significant upgrade in terms of connectivity (which is immediately attractive to me) is focus performance and ISO performance even better than the MKIII....I suspect it will be. I don't like the price...£2400+MKIII trade in.....Ill have to wait until £1k comes off the price....must get a euromillions ticket tomorrow!

Calumet photo on YouTube have some informative videos....inc dual pixels a and b....you can now process sharp and bokeh sections independently in photo professional apparently....worth a look. There is a comparison of MK III and IV....says can now focus at f8 whereas MKIII could only do f5.6 ( I think MKIII can do this already)

              Re: New 5DmkIV ...its here

Good to see some significant improvements to the spec. The ISO, sensor, GPS and WiFi improvements all seem positive and it looks like it should be even better in low light.

The Canon EOS 5D series is arguably one of the most recognizable camera lines of the digital age. We've put a lot of miles on our brand new 5D Mark IV's - is it still the definitive full-frame all-rounder? Read more

I'm sure you're right Colin though i did look long and hard whenever there were togs in the background.

Video looks nice though can't wait for some early reviews, though might wait a while looking at the opening Price expected about £3.200 not £3.599

That's a lot of money!! I wonder how the sensor compares to the Sony's and Nikon's? Where's the 6D2? Not that I'm in a rush to get rid of my 6D.

                        Re: New 5DmkIV ...its here

I managed to get a few kind souls to show me the new camera last week on Thursday and Friday.

First up the AF sensor is the same as the one from the EOS-1D X Mark II, so that means that the AF points now spread a little wider in the frame and also they work in low light much better than the 5D3. Focus tracking will still be better on the 1DX2 due to the additional dedicated AF processor, but is (claimed) to be better than the 5D3.

Metering uses the 150,000 pixel RGB sensor from the EOS 5DS / 5DS R. This means colour sensitive metering - 5D3 only had brightness - and also the metering is linked to the AF system to allow the camera to use the low resolution colour image to determine where in the frame a face to shape has moved. Pretty much the same system as the 7D Mark II, but with better low light focus.

If you've used the 7D2 or 5DS / 5DS R you will find nothing very strange in the menu system - this is good.

Touch screen is really usable, and so helpful IF you want to shoot movies. Dual Pixel AF works for Live View stills at -4EV, one stop darker than regular AF, and will also do amazing focus tracking in video.

Cf & SD cards, same LP-E6 / LP-E6 N batteries, mighty expensive new battery grip

I have seen a test image in DPP 4.5 where the focus point could be moved, quite impressive. Works best on faster aperture pictures, say f/5.6 or more where DOF is more limited. Also since DOF is affected by subject distance and lens, you might want to think about the focus adjustment as being best with a lens from 50mm to 200mm focal length and a subject distance of 1 meter to about 10 meters.

Looks like low light performance is better in a few get images, but still EOS-1D X Mark II with it's larger size pixels is better.

GPS and WiFi good to see, and the WiFi can work with the Canon app on your smartphone, EOS Utility or an FTP server (event photographers will like this).

I'll be getting one to replace my four years and four months old 5D3 that has served me well.
