Grianán of Aileach – Hilltop Ringfort

This site is a short 15 min drive from my home, I don’t get up here nearly enough.

It has a fascinating mythology & history like all ancient sites and amazing views.

I read books as a child of the same mythology and when I moved to Ireland, we would often visit to take a breath from the turmoil of our new home (NI).
Surprisingly, after researching my family tree - my surname is tied historically to the site (loosely) and the relief i felt visiting here, had a new twist.

you wouldn’t know it from the pictures, but it gets very busy in good weather.

Lovely set, looks like you can see quite a distance from the top.nice views.
Strange how your name is loosely connected with the site, gives it added meaning for you.

Some excellent shots Steven, I bet you are glad you stuck to using your kit lens , I said you would learn so much using that lens and it has proved so.
