Re: Couple of Milkyway attempts
not that I know anything about this genre of photography but they are good photos - although in the first to put a humor into the photo I would have edited the sign so it was just showing an upward arrow towards the stars ;o):- Ian

Re: Couple of Milkyway attempts
Thanks everyone. Been a bit of a real learning curve and believe it or, a cheap $10 torch has become one of my most valued items among my kit, not only for lighting up the rocks, but I never would of found my way back in the dark across the rocky track dodging the moody looking seals along the way!

Re: Couple of Milkyway attempts
Hi Bruce; two good attempts; certainly a tough genre to crack. You're lucky to have a spot where light pollution is not overwhelming...Cheers;

Re: Couple of Milkyway attempts
Anyone want to see some real professional shots, this person lives in my city and does some stunning work. I really can't wait for the weather to improve over the next few months and visit the places he goes to locally to me, when I say locally, it's normally a good hundred or so miles away! Until then, I'm saving up hopefully to get a 6d
Thanks again!

Re: Couple of Milkyway attempts
You are off to a great start. Well done
In the first you have captured the constellation of Orion, home to the Great Orion Nebula. The fact that he is not upside down, would indicate that the picture was taken in the Northern Hemisphere. Albeit the 'sword' is on the right and not the left, as seen in the Northern Hemisphere.
With the second one, I believe the dark area in the Milky Way, is what is known as the 'Coal Sack'.

Did you say you were new to this type of photography? If so, those images are pretty amazing.
