Cape Palliser Lighthouse with Milky Way, NZ

    Hi,

Took this one last night with a 600d and a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8. I made a big mistake last night. I forgot to charge battery up properly and it was a stunning night with no moon in New Zealand! Hopefully I've learnt my lesson

Could anyone advise on this. I'm considering buying a 7d mkii. The ISO is supposed to be a vast improvement. Or would you think I would be better off buying a 6d instead for these type of shots?

    Hi Bruiser,
You are better off with a full frame camera such as a 6D or a 5D Mk3 for night astro photography. They have lower ISO noise and a wider field of view so fast wide angle lenses can be used. There are lots of specialist photo forums for astro photography if you want help with equipment or techniques - do a search in Google.
    Hope this helps

      Cheers James,

I must admit, never thought there would be any astrophotography forums. I shall have a look :)

Agreed the 7d2 is being marketed as primarily for sport and wildlife so a 6 or 5 d variant would be better

Regardless of the problems you had its still a great shot.
