Thanks all. Thought I'd dust on the filter so rotated it and it didn't move so decided sunspot. If you look carefully there are a couple of smaller ones down and slightly to the left.

Put filter on my scope and its very clear.

Hi Paul, should clarify the scope I was talking about is the one I use for bird watching.

Always fancied an astronomical scope but where I live there's too much light pollution.

I was busy elsewhere & missed it too. Ah well, I'll have to wait until Nov 11 2019.

You can cover the lens with Astro filter film made by Baader - expensive but it works for solar eclipses too.

Thanks all for comments. I used the film by Baader. I mounted some on a cardboard frame so I could slot into my Cokin filter holder. Originally made for eclipse last year.

Thanks I can see how you've done it, I'll need a dustbin lid for my 400mm on a serious note a 400mm uses a drop in filter which are very small so i can see the possibilities of that working in some way.

Thanks again- as looking at the drop in filter it could do with a good clean which i wouldn't have noticed otherwise
