    The Tree

I took this a few days ago as the sun was beginning to set, the sky was badly blown out so I tried a mono conversion. I had a bit of advice from Treff on Flickr and have toned down the sky with a gradient.

      Re: The Tree

I like it Andy, especially the way you used the shadow of the tree to lead the eye into the image.

Thanks Paul and Tom. I think this is one of those 'should I have posted it' images.

The answer is a resounding yes and there is much to commend it. Shooting into the light is difficult and most people avoid it, but you have plenty of detail, partially through the clever use of using the tree to mask part of the sun. The composition is good and a little post capture addition with the gradient has added some polish to the image.

If you want to improve, you have to try new things and get outside of your comfort zone and contra jour isn't easy, as you need to balance the exposure to what you need, rather than letting the camera do all the work for you.

Looks quite surreal, I like that
The camera works just fine, it's the idiot staring through the viewfinder that need's help!

                Hi Andy
Always going to be a difficult job with the sun straight at you, but you've ended up with a strong image.
