The first looks like something from quatermass or the swamp :-)

I suggest you need to turn down the flash quite a bit; you've got some very harsh shadows... but, it's certainly different!

If you want a clean sweep background. Try some wallpaper/lining paper - comes in various thickness so you can even push an infinity curve into it.

Bought a roll from my local "cheap/stocks everything" shop. Cost me 1.99

Thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking of a sheet of paper from an art supply shop but cheap wallpaper makes more sense.
