    Torbay Express

I posted this shot in colour under the Transport heading a while back. It occurred to me that it might suit B&W - what think you?

Nice image John, shame the sky is so blown out though

I agree - I suppose I could cheat and crop it out?

Great shot John, the blown sky doesn't distract for me would have been the same in the days of B&W film anyway.

I did think that myself John. But to be honest, the shot doesn't work as well without it

You are right Alan - I experimented with a crop and it does not look as good.

Had a look at the colour image again, and the light sky isn't helped by the clean exhaust that you mentioned, would have been magic with clouds of dirty smoke.... ah we can but dream.

                      Nice image, works for me.
The sky is not maybe ideal but didn't detract too much. A graduated filter in something like Lightroom would probably sorry it out.

why would you think that is cheating

The little bit of sky does nothing for what is otherwise an excellent composition and mono conversion and if it were mine, that would have been the first thing I did.

Having had another look at cropping this image to remove the sky, I also checked back on the rest of the shots I took at the time.

Below is the next shot in the series, which happens to exclude the sky - I have to confess it is perhaps an improvement on the first.
