    Tower Bridge Lift

We had a day in London yesterday with tickets to visit the Fenchurch Street Sky Garden at 10.45. Found that the Tower Bridge lifting times for the day were 10 am and 11 am so thought it might work well to capture from a height. However although a very bright day after shooting through glass at an angle the colour version was very flat so tried a mono conversion processed with Nik

    Re: Tower Bridge Lift

Nice viewpoint Stan and very lucky to see the bridge open. It's also a good subject for mono. However, my experience with Nik (Silver Efex?) has been that the results can occasionally have too much grain and, with a view such as this, a bit more of the detail coming through would have improved it for me. On my monitor I seem to be seeing a slight halo around the left-hand side and, as was pointed out to me recently, that can come from sharpening prior to exporting to Nik - could that have happened here?

    Cheers,
    John

      Thanks for looking John

It wasn't very high ISO but I think the problems, apart from Nik were shooting through thick and not too clean glass and the halo has come about by using incorrect settings when reducing the size. Have taken the original large conversion and applied some NR and then reducrd for posting - hopefully the halo has now gone or at least not to prominent

I do prefer the second edit Stan - taking photos through glass is never easy, I've just been struggling with an edit myself but kept it colour, if I'm brave I may post it

          That's a big improvement Stan

In their later years my parents spent my inheritence on a seemingly endless series of holidays which they recorded by taking photographs through coach windows, train windows, aeroplane windows and hotel windows - all rubbish.

          Cheers,
