    I posted the colour version of this last month and some folks asked to see a mono version - finally I got round to it...

                That is very nice although I liked the near-mono effect of the original with just that little bit of red. Could some detail be found in the shadows?

                  Thanks all. Must admit that the mono works better than I imagined - though as the original is almost mono anyway I guess it should be OK.

                  I find that the shadows can block up a bit when the image is downsized. There's more to be seen on the biggest version on Flikr and on my original full size file - I tend to process keeping the blacks on the light side knowing that they block up slightly on compression.
