    Vulcan

    Hi All,

A couple of Vulcan shots. The first was at Cosford & the second was taken at the Victory show last year. The black smoke in the second picture was supposed to simulate the Port Stanley raid, during the Falklands War.

    Happy New Year to all,
    Neil

      omg!
Neilly, that first shot is fantastic!
the b&w really works well, the glint of sun on the nose, the moody sky, the faint ripple in the air behind from the thrusting engines. You managed to capture the full menace of this magnificent aircraft for me. Brilliant!

Great shots- like #2 as well as it shows the wonderful shape of the plane.

          Hi all,

Here's a few pics - the Lanc is obviously a model, but what about the other two?

            Well Neil,

As no-one else seems to be commenting, I will have a go.

I think they are both extremely good models, the Vulcan seems to be on approach for landing but I think the full size would have more of a nose up attitude and would have airbrakes and landing lights deployed??? The trees look a bit close also for a full size airstrip.

I think this is a Sea Vixen and am not sure if there is a full size one flying or not to be honest???...... Can I see the port rudder control horn??

              Re: Vulcan

Tough call as usual Neil. Not only are the models top class, but the way you set them in the shot adds to the reality, so here are my gueses:

              Vulcan is a model:

Wheel and suspension covers seem too thick for the real thing.
Trees don't appear to be in scale.
Didn't notice the lack of air brakes until pelliot mentioned it.
There appears to be one engine within each nacelle.

The Sea Vixen is a model:

WG 240 was the second prototype and still under evaluation for the Air Force, before they chose the inferior Gloster Javelin.
The only airworthy and flying Sea Vixen is G - CVIX, based in Borunemouth and flying in the Red Bull Sponsor's colours.

                Hi Neil;

Always impressive... #1 is the winner by a mile for me - apart from that annoying bit of haloing on the trailing edges... #2 looks a tad flat...

On the second series; the Lanc is by far and away the best image for mood methinks...

Cheers & a happy New Year to you...

                  Hi Guys,

They're all models - I guess no surprises there

The Vulcan models is a very accurate model - even down to the undercarriage. It was built by a retired ex-Avro employee. He built everything, including the very complex undercart. The model was then bought by a guy called Roy Lever - a well known modeler in his day, who's no longer with us. The Vulcan hung in his shop for about 10 years before Rob Greenwood managed to get his hands on it & refurbished the whole airframe & also fitted proper jet turbines (it was originally going to have ducted fan petrol engines). Rob wasn't competent enough to fly this model at LMA events so Dave Johnson flew it. I don't really know how, but Dave is now the proud owner of this superb model.

                  TTFN,
                  Neil
