    Not, as far as I'm aware, vandalism but 'elf 'n' safety'... There are several more in the cemetery that have been similarly laid down. Apparently it was (still is?) council policy if they are a bit wobbly...

    Have something like this in other graveyards. For much the same reasons.

    ​​My grandfather's grave was buried under 10 feet of soil so that ground could be used for further burials. Just pleased my mother was unaware this had happened as we live in completely different part of the country.

      This is the practice these days H&S, it’s happened a lot in my local Churchyard, numerous headstones laid down.
      Wonderful places old Churchyards, they support a wealth of plant and animal life.
