I blended the sky from the underexposed shot into the metered shot.
Apart from the halo, I still prefer the first image.
It seems more atmospheric and just as it was on the day.
I appreciate your comments folks.
This has given me food for thought regarding my post processing.
I guess others see your images differently from yourself - I hardly noticed the halo but now that it has been brought to my attention it sticks out like a sore thumb.
