Nice shot John. Have taken few shots myself but recon it's place you could go back to time after time.

        Nice image.
I'm up in Scotland next week and this is one place i would like to get too but didn't realize the water was tidal.

Tis indeed tidal. I've photographed a few times whilst up on Skye

As with anything in Scotland it's never the same twice. You guys have seen more of Scotland than me and I live here lol Cool shots. Didn't know anything about this castle until this thread.

Really, its probably one of the most photographed places in Scotland.

Have visited Orkney - great place and planning to go back as last time was nearly 30 years ago. NE cost near Lossiemouth - beautiful area and lots of distilleries.

And my current favourite haunt is Skye, beautiful island - stunning scenery, great walks and very friendly people. Which is something we've encountered in lots of places in Scotland too.

There is another good castle location just south of Aberdeen in Stonehaven called Dunnottar Castle.

I tend to just go drives and see what I can see. I probably should do more research, but I'm always looking for the haunts that haven't been photographed a lot. Coupled with the battle for direction of light, it's tough this game lol

Nowt wrong wit that approach. When at Stonehenge last week I couldn't believe the number of tourists, there is a lot of money being taken.

It costs £14.90 for the experience and you're kept 10-15 yards from the stones!! There was coach loads of people turning up who also spent money in the 'shop'.

Went to the Summer Solstice bash and you get in amongst the stones. Mind you there were a lot of people there this year some 37000! And this costs nothing apart from breathing in the air heavily laden with wacky baccy

That's pretty impressive and I didn't know about that one. Shame is I drove past the location last year on way to Skye. Unfortunately this was under sad circumstance as A82 was closed as motorcyclist had collided with a car and later died.

[QUOTE=SamFisher;219472]Its certainly a good looking castle but not the best in my opinion

Kilchurn Castle beats it hands down

I was up at Kilchurn Castle the other night, just on Loch Awe. Here's a tip, get there before the sun rises because the light is great on it. Any other time and it's back lit and then the sun dies behind the Cruachan hills. I arrived at night and it was too dull, it's also very difficult to get into, so take wellies

No Problem - just glad it kicked of a discussion about interesting locations in Scotland. That's what the forum is all about.
