    The Kelpies

Two 30 metre high sculptures which were opened earlier this year near Falkirk. The long exposure shots were achieved using a welding mask glass insert obtained for £2 on eBay - it's effectively a 13 stop filter.

    Very nice

I'd heard of using a welding glass as a ND filter but these are the first examples I've seen and it appears to work well.

    Cheers,

          Re: The Kelpies

I'd never heard of anyone using a welding glass for a filter, what a great way of getting a long and cheap filter - the 1st one is very nice and its nice to get the full picture and see whats going on inside with the last image

Thanks guys - yes, the third shot was just to give an idea of the scale. The first one is my favourite, especially as 'Head Down' looks quite benign, compared to the second image where it looks a bit fearsome.

No. 2 for me - I like the "fearsome" look!

Both shots appeal to me; good job...

There's a thread on another well known forum devoted to 'Welding Glass' shots for those cheapskates who won't fork-out for a real big-stopper (That includes me )
