Even better than your well received 'Rain Cloud' on Flickr which I noticed has 77,940 views! How does one get that many views on Flickr. I understand it is a really good image but what mechanisms does youneed to put in place to have a chance of receiving such reception?

        Well Done Andy!

          Re: Like a winged beast

John, I just post the image on Flickr and that's it. I don't do anything special with them at all. I used to add images to groups, but now I don't bother unless I see an invite from a group after it's been posted.

My other cloud photo that you referred to, very nearly didn't get posted at all, as I didn't think it was anything special. I only posted it here after seeing the positive response on Flickr and I thought 'maybe I'm just not seeing what others are seeing in the shot'.

Sometimes they make it into explore and that's what boosts the view count, but in all fairness when you compare the view count to the number of 'favourites' received, the ratio is often quite embarrassingly poor. I just count it as a bit of exposure, nothing more.

I've seen many images in Explore and wondered how on Earth they made it into there, even some of my images that I consider very average at best. I have a theory that a large majority of Flickr users, are viewing images on their mobile phones and they're not seeing the detail and thought behind a photograph. The images that seem to do well are often those with very vibrant colour, often overdone but it grabs attention when seen on small screens.
