Never shoot in to the sun take two

I had a trip out shooting seascapes with a TOG friend yesterday. We had the trip scheduled for a month or so having had to cancel a previously arranged trip. I was determined to go out despite the best efforts of my sheep tick.

I had hoped that I would be shooting a sunset with the setting sun sitting over the hump back whale but still with water over the wreck of the Admiral Von Tromp. Sadly the tide and sun weren't quite in synch so you just have to go with what you see in front of you.

I've processed this in LR using the grad tool to add additional control (I had a one and three stop grad on when making the image) over the sun. I've also tried a different sharpening process using luminosity layers, Unsharp Mask and smart sharpen in PS for this image.

As always for thought and comments would be appreciated.

        thats a cracker Peter

One thing the rock RHS - if you crop the bottom to loose it I think it improves the image ?

Cheers Ian, I was tempted to crop as you suggested but as I was experimenting with processing and sharpening I decided to retain all of the frame. But if and when I print the image it would be cropped as you rightly suggest. Thanks Ian [emoji106]

Great image Pete, love the colours throughout. The rock doesn't bother me too much

There is nothing to dislike about this image Dave. Like the star burst effect on the sun along with the beautiful colors you have captured.

That's a fantastic shot Peter, if you crop to remove the rock you will lose that lovely lead-in from the sun's reflection.
