I'm not sure of the origins of this standing stone which is one of a pair. It's partner is off to the left of this image they sit around a "Y" junction near Egton Bridge. One branch of the road is a gated road, so I suspect that the stones may have something to do with the ownership of the land which; may be the Egton Estates.
If you're wondering about the thread title I've been listening to music on my phone and a line from a Chris Rea song seems to have stuck. But..I'll get over it
Anyway this was taken yesterday evening, before the sun started to set and light up those clouds. You can see the sun off to the left of the image is casting a nice golden glow on the standing stone.
Has anyone any thoughts on the mark at the lower part of the stone?
