Torquay Lights - The Fair on the Front (take 2)

Last year I posted a shot of the fair on Torquay sea front reflected in the water and, while generally well received, James (jimsphotography) did make the very valid suggestion that "If you think you have now found the right spot might I be forward enough to suggest you repeat the exercise ( when you can) but a bit earlier - at the point just after sunset when a right exposure brings up a nice dark blue sky rather than a jet black one."

This was very reasonable it's just that the "when I can" meant waiting a year for the fair to come back.

Here's tonights attempts - set back more with a wider view to include that nice, deep blue sky:

And another zoomed it for more detail (but less sky):

This is still quite a challenge as the fair lights are very bright componded by a few spots aimed directly at the camera but, provided they're still on the green tomorrow, I'll go back for another session. Otherwise it's wait until next year

    Cheers,
    John

All three are excellent John, can't fault them. The 'dome' in the third is a flare I assume? I like it actually

Well worth waiting a year for, excellent control of the light.

              Thanks folks

Yes I think it must be flare as I find shooting into a bright light makes it almost inevitable - would better glass (i.e. of the 'L' variety) show an improvement or it it just as prone as my EF-S 15-85?

              Cheers,
              John

John, definitely worth the wait, lovely lighting and great crisp and vibrant colours. I particularly like 2 (the beach huts are a lovely touch) and 3 (great curtain of light).

                          Thanks Alex and Sue

I was fortunate that this year the tide was in and in a long way! Those beach huts have steps leading down to the sand but, uh, where's all the sand gone? So much water hides the less than photogenic rocks and improves the reflections no end.

                          Cheers,
                          John
