    Tower Bridge open for business

I had an excellent day in London with Alan Reeve on Saturday. Here's a LE shot when Tower Bridge was raised.

stunning shot Tony and I really like that - but the LHS seems soft or was it movement ?

Thanks Ian. I don't think the barge on the LHS being blurred helps. I couldn't really get that out of the shot and of course, boats and ships are always soft in LE images. I guess that's what is catching the eye. I may see if I can remove it.

the boat I can live with - its the main bridge that keeps catching my eyes

I was talking to Alan about this on another of his images. I recently watched a video where a guy shot a normal exposure and then a LE and using layers replaced a moving images onto the LE one - works really well and something I want to try when doing LE and you have the worry of movement

I know of another solution. I know a guy who double stacked Bog Stopper filters to give an exposure of forty minutes. He photographed a Venetian canal - boats that were tied up and bobbing up and down looked pin sharp as what is recorded is their resting position - weird but true !

Thanks guys - I will certainly try a bit of stacking next time.

something I didn't think off is in the video the guy removed the boat first from LE then replaced it .... you may have thought of that

Re: Tower Bridge open for business

I was thinking you'd have to do it with something like a boat and the moving 'soft boat' image is going to be larger than a sharp boat. The other way is to just stack the water and the sky with another normal exposure. With long Lee exposures (10Stop and 6 stop together) I do see a blue colour cast which is easily fixed but might be more of a challenge when stacking with other non LE images. I guess it all depends on the image - something to try next time.

Now there's a bloke who takes notice of what's going on around him. I was deep into another LE shot of something else and totally missed the bridge going up.....and it did it twice, doh!

I do like the overall tone of your shots Tony. Even on the back of the camera they looked good.

I too see some softness in my shots. I wonder if its the DoF kicking in? For me (and Tony I think) the shutter speed was controlled to 1/250 by using the aperture in Av mode. At times it dropped to F5, usually around F7.1 area.
