    Guadalest Cross

Returned to one of the favorite locations and got this plus a few other shots - Its odd I've been there 4 times but never thought of this angle and only notice it as I was sitting on a wall changing a lens ;o)

    Re: Guadalest Cross

Ian, that is lovely, love everything from the clouds, the delicacy of the cross, the lead in of the fence and the shadows on the step. But a question for you, is the slight offsetting of the doorway to balance the cross itself not being central in the doorway? If so, I think it really works, it adds a gentle curve to the eyeline. Or am I just over-thinking (not something I'm generally accused of!!)?
PS. I think you can be cut some slack on the verticals on this one.

      Re: Guadalest Cross

I'm sure the leaning verticals, drooping horizontals and very slight lack of symmetry will be discussed by others - although I would ask is it important, does it detract or add to the image, should we re-engineer in PS old architecture to the standards of modernity ?
I understand what Alex was trying to point but would like to comment on my interpretation of this pictures narrative.
For me, the main point of photography is to communicate some idea or concept from the photographer to the viewer - which in this case is successful by the lorry load. The whole image is loaded with visual metaphors - all working together and at different levels. The shade of the entrance, the dappled steps leading up into the light, the shade of a tree against the fierce heat of the day, the cross as the end point placed under a sunlit sky - even a person without Faith ( like myself) could not fail to read the story - exceptionally well seen and photographed

yes Alex I didn't want the cross bang in the middle and went for the "rustico" look Spain does so well ;o)

Thanks James - as you pointed out I could have pulled and twisted this to get it more upright but TBH its a gate / doorway thats been around hundreds of years and it just looked right processing this way

Many thanks for the comments guys
