    The Burren, County Clare, Ireland

The Burren in County Clare is a landscape composed of large areas of exposed limestone and in the spring the flowers that grow in the cracks are quite extraordinary ranging from from sub-arctic to sub-tropical.

I was a bit late for the best of this when I visited a few years ago but managed to get one shot I quite liked. Not sure if it's classed as a landscape or flower shot. Bit of both maybe.

I like the different layers, colours and textures but with the right hand rock being quite close to the top of the frame, the image looks more balanced if you crop about half of the foreground limestone

I like the image - it recalls happy memories...

            As John Betjeman put it:-

            ...Stony seaboard, far and foreign,
            Stony hills poured over space,
            Stony outcrop of the Burren,
            Stones in every fertile place,....

I can remember, many years ago, going to the "stony outcrop of The Burren" on a caravan holiday with my parents. We were chatting with a chap about our intended visit and he remarked that "to be sure, you'll find nothing there but stones, water and poverty" - he wasn't far wrong!
