    Sunset Swan

Can't quite decide which part of the forum this fits so its here.

Anyway still trying to decide if this works or not. Maybe it should be consigned to the bin.

Should I loose some of the sky would that help or not? Interested in comments, if its for the bin please say so.

This was about 6 in the evening from a hide at Minsmere.

Sorry Ant, it's more a landscape shot than a swan shot and the colors are not working for me as a sunset either

Fair enough, light was a bit strange. Looks like the bin becons.

Have you tried playing with the white balance ? I quite like the light on top of the reeds , putting it in the bin is a bit harsh .

There ought to be something there. Problem here I think is that the 3:2 ration is too long. I tried playing around with a 5:4 format. I tried with less sky but then tried this

which works for me. I think it's the simplified foreground that's effective and the lower half is also balanced by the negative space at the top. Not quite sure what's happened to the colour though - it seems to have gone green...

Thanks for input Nigel. Might look at various cropping. Colour does look weird but it is fairly accurate from what I recall. Could warm up the image a bit though.

It had been but suddenly dropped and mist started to form.

                  Re: Sunset Swan

This definitely has something to it. I much prefer your original white balance (sorry Nigel!) I was contemplating a square crop. I would really have liked it in landscape, but given it isn't, it is a question of can it work? And I think it can. I would play with the shadow just behind the swan as well, even though you might conclude that it is best as it is. I have no problems with dark shadows as I have said on several posts, but perhaps a little detail would help. Otherwise I think it is a very evocative shot.

I don't think this picture is for the bin. I like the moody atmosphere created in the first image. There is something nice about it as a landscape.
