    Elgol - Isle of Skye

I had a dental appointment on Monday which involves a trip off the island, a 40 or so mile drive each way passing quite a lot of scenery.
The weather was generally wet and windy when I left home but I thought I would take the camera anyway just in case there was a change.
Heading back it wasn't looking great but I thought what the heck and drove down to Elgol adding another 30 miles.

A couple of variations - Was it worth it? I'm not sure.

Definitely worth the 30 mile detour that's for sure. Of the two I prefer the first one. Needs a little horizon tweak though

I also prefer first image. Elgol, and the rest of Skye, is always worth a detour, even though it's 700 miles each way for me.

Two images with great light and slightly different compositions each of which have their strong points. Having driven the road to Elgol a number of times that was some detour from the dentists but well worth the effort.

Well worth the detour . I like the first one best too. The grass in the bottom right helps balance it.

              Thanks for your comments.

The first seems to get the vote and I agree it is the better balanced but I like the strength of the foreground in the second.

Looks like I'll be making some more detours to see if I can find a viewpoint where I can combine both aspects.

Re: Elgol - Isle of Skye

I've called back to this and agree that the foreground in the second is stronger than that in the first image. I wonder if the second image would take a slight crop off the right side so that's the hill side and sky junction is in the top right corner of the frame.

The first for me also. Good job the weather wasn't good when you left or you might have been tempted to miss the dentist...

First for me too. Balance looks better.

I visited the Fairy Glen on Monday, a few showers but nothing too bad. Got some breaks in the clouds so some reasonable images.

The lighting in the first, but the perspective in the second. The cracks in the rocks in #2 lead into the picture compared with #1 where they tend to run across it.

I was in Skye in September, but with company, so I had little time to take photographs, a revisit is high on my list.

Both great shots and I also slightly prefer the first one for the sky formation and general composition.
