    In Praise of Trees

During a recent stay on Madeira we visited Fanal Forest Area. I had hoped to make some Astro images in the forest area, sadly as I didn't hire a car that didn't happen. However we did visit the area on an organised trip around the Islands viewpoints.

Fanal Forest area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Fanal is a particularly humid laurel forest, due to the subtropical climate of the island and the forest is very often in mist and fog.

As always your thoughts and comments are welcomed.

    1. Decay in progress

    2. Decay and regrowth too

    3. A survivor

    4. Trees in the mist, this may work with a mono conversion, when I get chance I may give it a B&W treatment.

Fascinating set of shots Peter, they have a certain other-wordly feel about them especially the last one which is quite ethereal and will probably be even more so in mono...

Lovely set Peter. I do like the 3rd one there is so much character in these old stumps. Plus they proved a rich habitat for many of our smaller creatures - Boring Beetles etc. together with mosses, lichens and ferns. Plus they maintain in part their own growth like this one.
The first one looks to be playing host to a fungi known only as Peziza badia

Great set, looks like something from Harry Potter, half expecting the trees to move.
