    Standing Stones

I had a run out today too capture some moorland scenery with a bit of heather in them. I thought you may like a virtual tour of my journey, I hope you enjoy the ride.

    1. This stone is reputed to be a waymarker, though there is quite a number of stories regarding how it got its name. I know it as Fat Betty or White Cross. This LINK has more information if anyone is interested in the history/stories..

2 A landscape version, I thought I may get caught in the rain but it held off.

    3. Just a little further along the road brings you to this one. The Millennium Stone, this is a much more modern standing stone, I think I posted a picture of this one on here last year maybe. If your eyesight is good you may just be able to make out a pub on the horizon between the standing stone and the finger post. It is the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge, I had may bachelor night there in 1971 , showing my age eh!

    4. Ana Cross between Rosedale and Lastingham. This cross marks a Burial Mound (Round Barrow) the current cross is more recent the original cross is in the Church at Lastingham.

What a great set Peter, its No's 2 and 4 for me, both portraying the remoteness of the area - Excellent

Excellent set, certainly shows the remoteness.

The reason I like 2&4 is the sky in both really adds to the shot.

An excellent set. All superb shots but it's number 4 that really floats my boat so to speak. I so love a really dramatic wide angle sky that explodes out from the far distance...

          (+ for 4)

Have to agree all good but no 4 is knockout.

Thanks everyone, I agree about number 4 being the strongest of the set. The sun made an appearance as we were walking towards the cross, which produced the lovely light on the subject. The grey clouds visible in the other images threatened rain, thankfully it didn't happen.
