The title is a take on a Flanders and Swan song! The alternative title could have been a whistle stop tour of Madeira, anyway sufficient blathering for today here's a selection of images from a recent visit to the Island.
1. The airport with Ponta de Sao Laurenco in the distance. The airport runway has been extended two or three times the most recent of them stands on concrete pillars.
2. This is a view from a Levada walk we did that ended at a tea house. The little building in the centre with the pan tiled roof was originally a Cow House where the locals kept their cows, now it is a holiday rental property. You may just be able to spot three people to the left of that building walking alongside the Levada. The Levada are man made water irrigation channels that meander around the valleys from the high ground on the North of the Island. They are now also used for guided tourist walking routes, some of the walks are more arduous than others.
3. This is a cable car that runs from the Old town area in Funchal and goes up to Monte, you can come back down on it or..... if you have the nerve you can return via the roads on one of the toboggans, think wicker baskets on sleds!. I was intrigued about the cafe built around the cable car tower.
4. In 3 above I made reference to the Madeiran toboggans,Brian (@imagesBV) thought they sounded interesting. Here we have a couple enjoying a sled ride down from Monte. This is from 2010 taken with a 50D and 24-105.
