    Help please

I have just connected one of my studio lights to my 40D's flash port and then went into the menu to flash control and when I clicked on external flash settings it states that it can't detect the flash. Basically I would like to use the studio light and have it fire on second curtain if that makes sense. Does anyone know a solution apart from buying expensive gear

The pro flash port on the side only triggers the studio flash heads to fire, you can't exert any more control from the camera.

However, if your flash heads have a sensor that will trigger them to fire when they recognise another flash of light, you may be able to fool them into doing what you want:

    • Don't use the pro port to cable into your first studio head.
    • Set all heads to operate from their built in sensor.
    • Fit a Speedlight onto the camera hotshoe.
    • Configure the Speedlight as you require - 2nd curtain synch etc
    • Turn down the power of the Speedlight so as not to adversely affect the light for the shot.
    • Take those award winning shots.

Cheers Colin but the studio lights are very old and don't have sensors and my flashgun isn't recognised by the camera either as it is a yonguo 460
