    Into the light

had fun with this one as it was very dark in the room I was standing in and the cloisters in very bright - but I had an idea so went for the shot

    Re: Into the light

Beautifully composed and that diagonal shaft of light is lovely so such a shame the right-hand-side of the cloister is burned Maybe a nine image HDR needed?

    Cheers,

      Re: Into the light

thanks John - maybe I'm just odd but I liked the extreme of shadow and brightness in cloister, even the blown highlight - I could have recovered it further but played to it in processing

maybe I got that wrong we'll see what the collective think

Like the shadow, but if you can, I would pull the highlights down to give a tad bit more detail.

          Re: Into the light

Ian I do like that, particularly the contrast of dark to light to dark, with the diagonal light connecting them together. I get what you are saying about the highlights. Absolutely works on the left hand side but I wouldn't have been brave enough to have left it blown on the right. But I think you could well be right.

You did well in tricky conditions. Think I'd pull the highlights back just a tad though

I like that - I understand why people would want the highlights toned down but the fact you haven't makes this image stand out.

                  Re: Into the light

cheers for the feedback guys - I guessed this would have a split reaction but I want to try and show the location as I saw it and the cloisters were blown out in bright sunlight and so dark in the room I was down to 1/10.. Thanks, guys and I hope your ready for the next one as thats going to confuse the old eyeballs :)

Very effective though I'll admit I think a bit more depth in the highlights would be better...

I like it as is, for me there is just enough detail in the highlights for them not to hurt, and a very strong composition.
