    Stigliano thermal spa

We visited an ancient Roman thermal baths last weekend at a place called Stigliano in the Lazio region, Italy. Our friends who took us there were greatly disappointed that it had changed considerably since they last visited (there is now a very upmarket spa hotel where once there was a C16 farmhouse and outbuildings).

One thing which had not changed was the sulphurous (I refuse to follow the US edict and spell it with an "f" rather than "ph") smell from the various streams and springs which arise there. It is like permanently being in a miasmic cloud from the biggest gorilla fart in the world.

The main stream which flows through the site is below.
