    Staveley (Cumbria) Again

Yesterday was the walk proper, having done a reccee a month or so ago. With the optional extension (which most opted for) was a 11.1 mile ramble. Mainly muddy. Some steep climbettes. I had 16 in tow.

    1. Lambs

Only ones we came across and these ran away.

    2. Burneside St Oswalds Church

    What a wonderful building.

    3. The only shower of the day

Came in hard and fast. Above 1000' it caused a mini blizzard.

    4. The Howgills

It was along that snow topped ridge we walked the other week (in snow)

    5. Wood Cross

In the grounds of St Oswalds

    6. Staveley St Margret Church

    As usual 40D plus 17-40L

Feel free to report technical or narrative blunders and thanks for stopping by.

      Re: Staveley (Cumbria) Again

Thanks for the Monday morning fix, it looks from #4 that it was pretty cold. Was the wooden cross in a cemetry? as it looks to be next to an old grave to the right.

Muscat - thanks. Yes the wooden cross was in the cemetry (and looks like it had been there for a while). Couldn't really get any height (without being antisocial) to get cross + flat stones in a shot.

Thank you kind sir for getting my week of to a good start.

St Oswalds is certainly a wonderful looking building and is crying out to be "explored.

            My favorite is The Howgills.

                Thanks everyone ...

David ... quite a stunning church (five minutes walk from Burneside station for those that need to know) ... I shall be back in the summer in none walking mode with the 7D.

DavidS ... I sometimes miss reach ... this was prime for a panorama using my 300 f/4 ... as well as this open view.

Colin ... I was too busy trying to get the lambs and forgot about the backdrop ... oooops.

The Howgills is the leader for me. The wooden cross in the cemetery is kind of sad. (if you know what I mean) but I have to say 11.1 miles is not "a" walk. For me, its about 11 walks squeezed into one day.

Thanks Di. I agree about the wooden cross. Not sure if it was a pauper's grave as I didn't have time to look at the stone next to it.

                        Nat - I somehow thought you'd like Burneside's church.
