    Coleton Fishacre

    South of Brixham in Devon.
National Trust property in a wooded valley garden leading down to the sea.
!920's/30/s house built as the sea-side holiday cottage of the D'Oyly Carte's - of opera and hotel fame (and wealth...). Furnished in Art Deco style, but no internal photography.
The gardens can be explored at different levels and range from formal borders and artificial rills to wild, damp woodland. The house would have had fantastic views out to sea but the master of the house, many years ago, apparently buried his favourite dog in the garden and planted a tulip tree on the grave - it is now so big that the views are blocked. Nice tree, tho'.

Taken quite late in the afternoon on a very dull day -

    50D + 24-205L.

Sadly, being National Trust, November sees the site closed, but am putting this up in case anyone plans trips down that way next year - well worth a visit.

    Cheers, Chris.
    Just chuggin' along.
