    Grasmere - Spedding Crag

Did a short 4 mile or so ramble onto the fells (Spedding Crag) around Grasmere. A couple of us had spikes but some didn't and after less than a mile the leader asked me to rescue the situation. So rather than just return (down the icy climb) I 'invented' a mini circular. Ice, low cloud in the offing and -1C (and dropping with height) plus wind chill ... well I'd sooner have a coffee in a cafe than a hospital. Note I've not removed colour from these, it's how it was. At times things looked like very sharp B&W negatives!

1.Helm Crag [1329'] (also known as Lion & Lamb - because that outcrop looks like a lion with its paw on a lamb if you try hard enough.)

MX, Respect for you Guys going out in that weather, it certainly looks like a grey day, as you say the first three shots are virtually devoid of any colour.

Quite a bold effort to go out in this weather. The first three reminds me of my trip to Snowdonia last week but of course I had far more colour. It is always nice IMO to show a picture as it was, when taken.

                Thanks everyone.

I should have taken pictures of the ice and icicles. When you can't see the footpaths and wind has covered previous walkers boot prints and you never know whats under the snow. That's why our progress was so slow compared with what we normally do in good weather.

Thanks Tom. Yes a splendid cup of Americano (Black Filter Coffee). Actually the quality of coffee does vary a lot in cafe's but often we strike lucky.

Always good to see the sights, especially when someone else is doing the hiking.
