    Glenridding for Place Fell

Yesterday for a splendid day, with much sun and about 6C (felt cooler on the tops with the wind chill). Fells were quite busy and we weren't surprise to see the local MRT, a Dauphin II Air Ambulance and an RAF SAR Sea King involved in getting a fallen walker off Swirral Edge [see #3].

Quite a bit of snow and ice about and really first true mountain outing for my new boots. So I led 6 on a hard 9 mile wander up Place Fell (2156').

    2. The Near Eastern Fells (including the 3117' Helvellyn)

    3. The Helvellyn Caldera (Catstycam is the pyramid shaped mountain)

Looks like you had a good day MX when looking at #1 and #3 you wouldn't think they were taken on the same day. I hope the new boots worked well

Nice place to be at this time of year, some good clear images there. Can,t remember if you can see Martindale from Place Fell. Did you not go into the public bar at Howtown for your efforts.

                  Re: Glenridding for Place Fell

                  Thanks everyone.

My new boots (Scarpa Manta) had be worn in (although not essential these days) on some 'tame' walks but this was their first outing in the terrain they are design for ... first rate boots.

Judder Man ... yes you can see the ridge across Boredale (Martindale Common) but I can't remember if you can see the place where the Deers live. Not enough time to do Howtown (I had thought about it and using the steamer when I was planning) ... as it was we got back with 15 mins to spare (coach).

As a measure of 'hardness' we normally do an average of 2.5mph (2mph when the going gets tougher) ... this was 1.7mph.

Superb, very good shots. Well worth the effort - are the others photographers or do you just abuse them for selfish fun?

A couple carry a Lumix P&S ... given all bar one are (much) older than me (and I'm ancient) they do rather well ... says a lot for doing these hard walks as its keeps the brain and body healthy. Unusually I had two one-eyed people with me on this one.

It's tougher than it looks, Place Fell. Some nice weather for it, and great views well captured.
Please don't ask about my kit, it's embarrassing!
