It may be the PP but the first image seems to have more detail and better colour

That was my take as well. Same time (within reason) but quite a difference in detail. Maybe just a softer lens with the 70-300mm DO lens. I am not brilliantly happy with the DO and will move to the L when funds allow... Maybe I can trade in my DO plus my 15-85mm from my 7D, then keep the 70 - 300 L on the 7D, with the 24-105 on the 5Diii...

      Just dreaming!

Could this be down to camera than the lens?

Good question... I don't absolutely know, but I can have crystal sharp photographs from my 7D.

Lovely looking church. First is definitely the best but the second on my monitor is overexposed destroying some fine detail. With two totally different classes of lens and different exposure or PP this isn't really a valid comparison.

Agree, the 2nd image is 1/2 a stop over exposed., its difficult to judge on the difference in sharpness, clarity, definition on 2 different lenses. Was the focus point the same for both images.

Rcarca, can you repeat the experiment by taking a common shot with both cameras and each using both lenses, yes you will have 4 images to compare but you cuold compare IQ of each lens on each camera to determine if it is the DO lens that is soft. Yes there will be different sizes of the landscape as one sensor is FF and the other a crop but the test I feel would still serve to tell you where the best quality can be found.

Thanks everyone for looking. I agree there is nothing here that is more than anecdotal. I will have to set up a better experiment! Perhaps in better light.
