The Needles Old Battery

While at Alum Bay I went up the Old Battery at the Needles which is an old fort and part of the coastal defences on the south coast.
It was a brutally windy day, and I was almost blown over despite being 6ft2 and the best part of 16 stone!

The views were good, and it's an interesting place. A bit expensive as it's a National Trust property, worth a visit though.

Hmmm, I was wondering what type of Lens that old Cannon used Really nice set set Andy and I do like the perspective you took on these images. As for the 4th image (rear of the Cannon) the vignetting IMO is a bit to strong, maybe backing it off a tweak or 2 would be better or tone down the colors a bit to give it a older look (With the current vignetting) to the image.

Thanks Tom, I will have at that and see about either reducing the vignetting I applied and/or changing the tone of the picture.

Looks like a good place to visit

A bit expensive as it's a National Trust property,

most NT properties are expensive on a one off basis, far cheaper to get an annual membership which pays for itself after 3 or 4 visits

It was interesting, some great history with the rocket test area as well.
I did think about joining, but with Wetlands and English Heritage memberships already I decided not to at the moment. Might consider it in the future is we holiday near somewhere with lots of National Trust places we want to visit.

The windmill we visited was NT too, but a public footpath ran past it and through a field so I did not feel the need to pay just to get the other side of a 3 foot fence!

yeh, you have to draw the line somewhere - currently we are members od NT, WWT, British Wildlife Centre, Marwell Wildlife and Hillier Gardens...... oh and Dorset Wildlife Trust and RSPB and for most, in particular NT and WWT we more than get our moneys worth in a year
