    Didcot Railway Centre

A very overcast and drizzle day at the railway centre on New Years Day, so thought we would experiment with the in camera HDR feature on the 7D II. On reflection, should really have used a tripod rather than handholding for 3 shots @ 1/30 sec, as in the case of the first shot; That and the second are also at ISO6400 with the last one @ 1600

I do like the first Stan

The in camera HDR feature works well and I'm very pleased with the 5D one, I presume its very similar

      Nice work Stan!

I haven't been to Didcot RC since the early 80s and that shed with the Platforms in photo 1 didn't exist then. They have obviously been busy in the last 30 yeas!

yes I think it is and its done a good job of aligning the shots despite being hand held at low speed.

Haven't yet tried the HDR feature. Does it leave you with 3 raw files the you can stack, or is it like the M and processes it for you in camera and leaves you with a jpg file?

          Nicely done Stan

I don't know about the 7D Tom, but the 5D will give you the three raw files and one HDR jpeg - its actually quite handy as it offers you a preview of what the HDR image will look like, or you can always just use the camera image

The 70D process the three images in the camera into one image. There are no three seperate raw files.

                Cheers Tom

As said it only shoots in jpeg but does keep the 3 individual jpegs as well as the processed HDR

does the 7D not save the single shots as Raw files Stan ?

I thought I had read that it only shot jpegs so I deleted them all in camera before downloading the HDR however I have just done a quick test and......yes it does shoot the raw as well ....damn, some didn't come out as well as expected and with the raw I could maybe have done something with an individual exposure - I will know for the future

Whilst I'm pleased with the incamera option, but I've found a few times it needs the control you have over Raw files and putting it through a HDR editor - Least you've got it now for next time

yes, otherwise I would probably have just continued to delete them
