    South Foreland Lighthouse

Last weekend I visited Kent with Subterannea Britannica to visit some deep shelters, but the morning started with meeting up at South Foreland Lighthouse.
Its a stunning building up on the cliffs and the sky was very clear that morning.
Images of the shelters visited will follow in separate threads.

All three shots are interesting -however,I prefer the first as it has a more graphic, artistic slant to it. Looking forward to your shots of underground stuff - sounds truly fascinating

A nice set Andy, but of the 3 I would have to also give a nod to the 1st for it's artistic value.

Cheers Tom, the first image was the one I 'wanted', the others give it some context and expand on it.

Thanks Stan, the good thing is that was pretty much as it was, the sky was gorgeous.

Of the three I prefer No3 also
If I read your EXIF setting correctly in Flickr it looks like you are using Lightroom 5 which I believe has the ability to correct verticals ( might be interesting to test it on shot no2)
                Cheers

it does Dave - but its at the expense of having the image cropped in as it corrects verticals, in this case looking at the top I don't think it would work - the only way is by shooting very wide then you can loose the crop and still keep all the building. I think the term is refereed to as the poor mans TSL

Cheers Dave, I did try correcting the verticals but as Ian said it crops the image. In this case I'd not got enough room at the top of the image for it to crop and leave the top of the lighthouse showing. Not ideal, and maybe a lesson learned.

same here learned that one the hard way - you need plenty of room if your going to correct verticals

                        Re: South Foreland Lighthouse

Andy, nice set. As others have said, I also like the 1st the most because of its graphic symmetry. On the 1st and 3rd I particularly like how you have put the 'flat' side on the front of the three visible, I think most would instinctively have lined up on a set of windows, but then the interest would not have spread around to the sides. I like the subtle shade on the 3rd that improves the relief.
I would definitely have wanted to correct the verticals on the 2nd. You had left enough room at the sides to do so (where I normally go wrong), but yes, since you've already clipped the top of the wind vane, you are too tight up there.

Thanks very much for looking Alex, and for the kind comments.Definitely learnt a lesson about framing, just hope I remember it!

Of course, what this has shown me is how useful that tilt-shift lens would be.
Shame I've just bought all new bedroom furniture and carpet for my daughter's room!

The crispness of the white stone looks amazing against the deep blue of the sky, like that.

Personally I'd go with the second but from either the left POV or even better from the right side.
