    Clapham South Deep Shelter

A few weeks ago I visited the deep shelter at Clapham South as part of the Hidden London series of tours being organised by the London Transport Museum.
It was a very interesting visit, and I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone if they get a chance.

Here are a few images, more are on my Flickr site.

Any thoughts, feedback or comments welcomed as always.

Interesting images from a very unusual place.

When you look at them it raises the question as to whether it would be worth avoiding The Bomb - months or years closeted in that steel lined hole might actually be a worse prospect than eternity as radioactive dust...

Looks an interesting place. 3 and 4 remind me of part of the Greenwich foot tunnel

Luckily as a shelter it was only over night usage during WW2.
But it did act a hotel during the Festival of Britain, and then as a hostel for workers arriving from west Indies.

The construction is maybe of a similar style/look.
It's a very interesting place to visit, I'd love to go back.
