I have to say its a shame about the fence....but an interesting subject.
I think my approach would be to get in close and shoot through the railings wide angle - Norseman in the foreground pointing to the tall ship mast...but that's just my angle on this.Brian Vickers LRPS

Nice on Flickr with lots of detail to enjoy, this many ships clustered together conveys well how busy the port is and the Viking graphic introduces a powerful dynamic so such a pity the fence acts as a compositional barrier to getting into the image.
