    The Gibraltar Stone

A short distance from where I live on the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths, is the Gibraltar Stone, the inscription plate explains all. Its an area that in my childhood was my playground and where I learnt so much about the natural world. In my teens when I joined the Royal Marines, its where I did my commando training before being sent to far flung corners of the world. I suppose it's now come full circle and again it's my playground.

An excellent and well deserved commemoration stone, thanks for sharing that Trev, I wouldn’t have known about it or the back story otherwise. Thank you.

And probably some you wish you could remember! Great shot of an interesting piece of history. Thanks for sharing. On a technical note the stone mason did a good job mounting the plaque.

Thanks Brian, yes I can remember the good times with some of the finest people I have ever known. On the other side of the Gibraltar Stone is this other plaque with the ethos of the Commando's.is
Ethos I like to think that I live by to this day.

I never served in the forces, but like to think I also live by those values. Treat others the way you wish to be treated, which unfortunately is sadly lacking in a lot of people, especially during this pandemic.
